Removals Bayswater Health and Safety Policy
Removals Bayswater is committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, customers, contractors and members of the public who may be affected by our activities. This policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety risks across all removal and relocation services we provide.
Policy Aims and Objectives
Our objective is to prevent injury and ill health arising from our work. We will achieve this by identifying hazards, assessing risks and implementing effective control measures. Health and safety considerations are integral to planning and delivering our services, including domestic and commercial moves, packing, loading, transport and storage operations.
We will review this policy regularly and revise it as necessary to reflect changes in legislation, industry standards, or the nature and scale of our activities.
Management Responsibilities
The management of Removals Bayswater accepts overall responsibility for health and safety. We will provide clear leadership, allocate appropriate resources and ensure that safe systems of work are in place and followed.
Managers and supervisors are responsible for implementing this policy within their areas of control. This includes:
Ensuring that risk assessments are completed and kept up to date, that employees are informed of the findings and that agreed control measures are implemented. Monitoring working practices and taking prompt action where unsafe conditions or behaviours are identified. Ensuring staff receive suitable training and instruction for the tasks they carry out. Investigating accidents, incidents and near misses and implementing improvements where required.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees have a legal and moral duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their work. Every member of staff must:
Follow the safety procedures and instructions provided by the company. Use equipment, vehicles and personal protective equipment correctly and report any defects immediately. Co operate with management on all health and safety matters, including attending training and participating in risk assessments where requested. Report accidents, incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions to their supervisor without delay. Refrain from any misuse or interference with anything provided for health, safety or welfare.
Training, Information and Supervision
Removals Bayswater will provide suitable and sufficient health and safety training for all employees, taking into account their role, experience and the nature of the tasks they carry out. This includes induction training for new starters and ongoing refresher training when required.
We will ensure that employees receive clear instructions and information on safe working methods, including manual handling techniques, safe loading and unloading of vehicles, use of lifting equipment, and correct use of packing materials and tools. Adequate supervision will be provided, particularly for new or inexperienced staff and for higher risk activities.
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices
Systematic risk assessments will be carried out for all significant activities, including home and office moves, heavy or awkward item handling, stair work, operations in confined or restricted spaces and vehicle loading at roadside locations.
Based on these assessments, we will implement safe working practices such as:
Planning moves in advance to minimise manual handling risks and difficult access routes. Using appropriate equipment including sack trucks, dollies, lifting straps and ramps. Limiting loads to safe weights and encouraging team lifting when required. Controlling trip, slip and fall risks by maintaining clear walkways and good housekeeping at loading points and within client premises.
Vehicles, Driving and Transport Safety
Our vehicles and associated equipment are critical to our operations. We will ensure that all vehicles are maintained in a roadworthy condition and inspected at appropriate intervals. Defects will be reported promptly and the vehicle taken out of service if safety could be compromised.
Only authorised and appropriately licensed drivers may operate company vehicles. Drivers must follow road traffic law, observe speed limits and drive in a manner that protects passengers, other road users and members of the public. Loads will be distributed and secured to prevent movement in transit and to preserve vehicle stability.
Manual Handling and Ergonomics
Manual handling is a core part of removal work and presents a significant risk of injury if not properly controlled. We will minimise manual handling where reasonably practicable by using mechanical aids, planning routes and tasks to reduce carrying distances and avoiding unnecessary lifting or twisting.
Employees will receive practical training in safe lifting and carrying techniques, posture, and the use of handling aids. We will encourage staff to speak up if they consider an item too heavy or awkward to move safely and to request additional assistance or equipment.
Equipment and Personal Protective Equipment
All tools, lifting devices and associated equipment used in removal activities will be suitable for their intended purpose, properly maintained and inspected regularly. Defective or damaged equipment must not be used and must be reported immediately to a supervisor.
Where risks cannot be adequately controlled by other means, appropriate personal protective equipment will be provided, such as gloves, high visibility garments or safety footwear, in accordance with the specific task. Employees are required to use such equipment as instructed and to take reasonable care of it.
Working at Customer Premises
When working at customer homes, offices or other sites, our staff will take all reasonable precautions to protect the health and safety of occupants and visitors. This includes maintaining clear access routes, securing doors and gates where necessary, protecting floors and surfaces, and controlling noise and disruption as far as reasonably practicable.
We will respect any specific site rules or safety procedures communicated to us and coordinate with customers or third parties to manage shared risks, such as shared access areas, loading bays or lifts.
Accident Reporting and Emergency Arrangements
All accidents, injuries, incidents and near misses must be reported as soon as possible to a supervisor or manager. Accurate records will be kept and incidents investigated to identify causes and prevent recurrence.
Emergency procedures will be in place for foreseeable situations, including fire, serious injury, vehicle accidents or hazardous material spills resulting from damaged goods. Employees will be briefed on these procedures and on how to obtain first aid or emergency assistance when required.
Consultation and Continuous Improvement
Removals Bayswater recognises that effective health and safety management depends on active participation from all levels of the organisation. We will consult with employees on matters affecting their health and safety and encourage suggestions for improving our arrangements.
We will monitor our performance through inspections, audits, feedback and incident analysis, and will use the findings to drive continual improvement in our health and safety management system.
This Health and Safety Policy demonstrates our ongoing commitment to ensuring that all removal activities are carried out in a manner that protects people, property and the wider community.
